Fun Stuff at National Ropers Supply

I love NRS. I’ve been picking up awesome tack from the store for years now. Amongst my favorite items are a pair of spur straps and headstall/reins set I use on Milo. I am almost constantly adding the products they sell to my wishlist. This spring is no different! I received their catalog last week and proceeded to earmark just about every single page. Sometimes both outside corners were folded because I found so many things I liked!

I’m thinking about picking up this Tin Haul shirt ($74.99) because of the lovely color palate and easy fit. I think it would make a fun show shirt for summer open shows. I’m also intrigued by Wrangler’s Booty-Up American Royal Jeans ($60.00). I’m a Wrangler girl…and have not seen or tried this cut but it claims to lift and define your butt and flatter curves….hmmm. Moving on, I’ve found about half-a-dozen belts I would love to wear which I’ll just list a few of and you can check out for yourself: Ariat’s Blossom Pink and Brown Belt ($99.95), Double J’s Floral Antique Brown Buckstitch ($250.00), A more affordable version of that belt is the Natural Floral Buckstitch Belt ($49.99).

As far as boots go, you might as well just buy me every pair you see. I cannot have enough boots, even if I usually end up wearing my same old half-dead tan boots which need to be thrown out. I am currently set on replacing them with Tin Haul’s “Man Eater Gnarly Shark” boots ($229.00) They are so ridiculous. I love them. Never-mind that I actually need some new show boots and just tough comfortable boots. I still want these.

I’veĀ  been thinking about getting a garden hat. Nobody sees me in the garden…which means it is a perfect place to go for something really, really crazy, like the Coyote Mexican Palm Hat ($29.99). It could be fun right? Maybe I just have a desire to try it on a laugh, because I’m sure that’s all I would really do with it.

Now to Tack! I don’t barrel race (really, just fun stuff at shows) but I can appreciate a cool saddle of any kind, so take a look at the Double J Brittany Pozzi Vintage Barrel Saddle ($2799.00). It’s pretty awesome. NRS has a cool array of breast collars, bridles, and reins too. This Martin Alpaca/Mohair Breastcollar ($139.99) is one of my favorites.

The entire section of headstalls is amazing, especially for unique tack for training…even a few things you could use in the show-pen. I’m not going to even touch which headstalls I love…it’s pretty much all of them. Go ahead and check them out yourself šŸ™‚ .

They no longer carry the one type of quick change headstall I own but the reins to match it are still available. They’ve become my favorite reins period; tough, heavy, and comfortable and easy to switch from bit to bit. The “NRS Quick Change Western Horse Reins” range from 3/4″ thick at $59.99 to 5/8″ thick at $54.99. Great reins!

To keep this post from getting extremely long, I’m quitting there. My point? Check out National Ropers Supply. They have wonderful products, fast shipping, and great customer service. I am definitely a loyal customer…and I think I’m going to have to put an order in soon!

New Saddle Woes

I don’t think I’ve owned a brand new saddle…ever. My current saddle had not been ridden when I got and took a while to break in, but I love it now! A friend bought her daughter a new saddle this spring. It’s been quite a pain (literally) for her to break in. The biggest challenge has been the stirrups. So, I thought I’d post a link which has a few tutorials about how to turn stirrups out making them much more comfy and easier to keep on your feet. I’m still searching for a better tutorial or a really good video of how to do it! Feel free to share a link if you know of one!

  • From HorseSaddleShop.com: How to Turn Your Stirrups.Ā  I like the three different ways to turn stirrups given here; however, the last method, which is probably the best, is very confusing.

Effol Passes the Test

This post was supposed to go out Saturday morning…some how everything but the tags and title was deleted. I protested by ignoring WordPress for the weekend, even though I’m pretty sure it was my own fault.

What I wanted to tell you is that the Effol “Ocean Star Spray Shampoo,” I bought a while back, is awesome. This past week has finally been hot enough for me to start giving the horses bathes. I only used the sample bottle that came with the bigger one. So far, the sample bottle has washed three horses and still has some more to go! I love it! It smells good and suds-up really well without needing a lot. I’m pretty sure it would be easy to make my own spray shampoo but for now, I’m going to enjoy this stuff. I highly recommend it!

Did you watch the Derby? I did, of course! My top 5 did…well…I had Bodemeister and Dullahan in the middle of my top 5 so that was ok. My top two, Take Charge Indy and Union Rags didn’t do anything, and El Padrino at the bottom of my list didn’t do anything either. It was a crowded field to say the least. I was really impressed with Bodemeister though, and Dullahan was making a bid for it at the end. I look forward to seeing those two race more.

It was a bit shocking to hear about the murder at Churchill Downs after the race. I can’t help but think of Dick Francis though. It’s like one of his books in real life!

In other news…I passed, not passed, dominated (haha!) my Senior Seminar class and earned an A+ for my final grade. I have never felt such relief! I haven’t celebrated it yet, but I will for sure!

I also got to spend a wonderful day at the barn yesterday and rode both Milo and Tango. Mom even had a good ride on Ozzy. I’m starting to get back in the groove of riding and actually having time to now!

Enjoy the cool photo below! (I just happened to see it when I looked up the murder story)

Realization

Last week, I went shopping. It was OK. I found some really good smelling, volumizing conditioner that I considered buying. It was a fancy brand and came in a huge bottle, plus it was on sale at Marshall’s. I thought about buying it for a half-hour as I walked around the store. Ultimately, I decided $16.00 is just too much money for conditioner.

Yesterday, I bought a few things for the horses…including these cool little horse shoe halter racks, a bit for Tango, and one other thing. I’ve been really curious about the Germany basedĀ  brand, Effol. They are sub-brand of a larger company that has been producing products for over 100 years. I happened to see their, “Ocean-Star Spray Shampoo” on the Rod’s website. It took me all five seconds to realize I was going to buy it, even if it cost $16.95. Spray Shampoo for horses!? Sweet. And I finally get to try one of Effol’s products.

Then, I realized…this little “most interesting man” knockoff for horse people, is so true.Ā  When it comes to buying things for myself….I always want cheap, cheap, cheap. As soon as horse things are involved, I will spend my money. My horses are so spoiled.

In other news…I have replaced the phone I dropped in the toilet. I have 3/4 of a page written out of the approximately 16 pages worth of papers dues this next week. Bleh.

Sunday Steal: TuffRider Cotton Sheet

So, if your horse needs a blanket liner or maybe just a little extra warmth on the chilly fall days, try this cotton sheet! Listed on HorseLovers.com and Amazon (It’s sold though HorseloverzĀ on Amazon)…the Amazon choice is actually a couple of dollars cheaper, even though you’re technically buying from the same store. The TuffRider Stretch Cotton Horse Sheet is only $15.00! But, sadly, that is before shipping. Add another $7.50 for that. Ultimately though, you will still be getting the best price for a cotton sheet!

Sunday Steal: a Day Late

Yesterday, I forgot to pay attention to time and had to rush from the barn to home, to Todd’s, to the bar. In that time, I forgot to post! So here is yesterday’s Sunday Steal: a Hawthorne New Market Woolen Dress Sheet. This sheet is normally around $175.00 but since HorseLoverz.com has partnered with a tack store liquidation, you can get it for $49.95. There are limited sizes but if your horse fall into one of the those sizes, it’s a great deal! I love the look of these sheets and they would be perfect for the cool fall weather!

Sunday Steal: Circle Y Show Saddle

Circle Y saddles can run over $2500.00 brand new. The more silver and tooling, the more expensive it gets. With the number of used show saddles available that still look great and are nice and broken in, why spend that much? I just found this saddle for under $1500.00 (shipping included). That’s a really decent price for the quality, style, and amount of silver! It’s in great shape too!
